parents:  Amos Chaffee m. 1769 Anna Brown (d. 1831)  Amos Chaffee (1744 –1815) served as private in Capt. Daniel Cadwell's company, Col. Timothy Robinson's regiment, Hampshire County, Massachusetts militia. He was born in Woodstock, Conn.; died in Rochester, Vt.

John Chaffee was a farmer, surveyor and teacher. He had a light complexion, blue eyes, and was six feet in height. In 1801 he was living in Athens, where in 1805 he held the office of LIster and in 1806 and 1807 that of Selectman. At various times he held nearly all the elective town offices in Rochester. He and his wife were for years members of the Congregational Church, but later joined the Universalist Church.

2. Marcia b. 11 Jan. 1804 m Washington Tower, in Rochester, VT. She had a light complexion, blue eyes and was medium in height;was a member of the Congregational Church.
3. Leonard b 28 June 1806 m. Tryphenia Thurston
4. Lyman b. 23 Oct. 1808: had a light complexion, blue eyes, and was medium in height; when last heard from, in 18230, he was teaching school near Springfield, O.
5. Amos b. 2 Dec. 1810 d. Rochester, 10 Aug. 1848 m. Hannah Hubbard: he had a light complexion, blue eyes, and was of medium height.
6. John Jr. b 11 May 1813, m. Roselle A. Lowell
7. Anna b. 29 Sept. 1817 married Ebenezer K. Richmond
8. Ester b. 28 April 1820 m. William Stone residence 1891, Rochester. VT.
