    Lawrence "Leo" White, age 87 of Elliott, Iowa passed away Thursday, January 17, 2008 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. Leo White was born January 11, 1921, on a farm near Stennett, Iowa the son of R.L. "Jim" and Laura (Rush) White. Leo attended and graduated from Stennett High School in 1938. After graduation he worked on neighboring farms. On July 10, 1941 Leo was united in marriage to Leah Acree in Maryville, Missouri. In December 1942, he was drafted into the US Army and stationed at Camp Chaffee, AR where he was a tank driver. While in the service Leo was injured on maneuvers in Kentucky and spent 63 days in the hospital, at which time his unit was sent oversees. He was honorably discharged in 1943 and returned home to farm. Leo and Leah farmed for 45 years until moving into Elliott in 1987. He was a member of the Pilot Grove Church, an assistant leader of the Pilot Grove Punchers 4-H club for 11 years, a member of the Montgomery County Fair Board for 9 years and a former member of the International Order of Odd Fellows. He was also a member of the Frankfort Gun Club and the Izaac Walton League where he raised small pheasants and quail and was often a trophy winner at the trap shoots. He helped plant trees at Viking Lake when it was being built and loved to hunt and fish in his younger years. Leo was a member of the Red Oak Campers Club and spent 20 years wintering in Arizona. He also liked to dance and play cards. Leo had a good sense of humor and was always telling jokes and handing Werther's candy out to all he knew.

    Leo was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother: Clendora White; brother: Robert; sisters: Ruth Scheel, Linda Foote and Lorraine Wendt; brothers-in-law: Wilbur Wendt and Lowell McCunn. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Leah White of Elliott, Iowa; son: ----- White and wife ----- of Waukee, Iowa; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; five sisters; and five brothers.

    Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, January 21, 2008 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak with Pastor Terry McClain officiating. Burial will take place at the Hillside Cemetery in Elliott, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM on Sunday, January 20, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
