MURPHYSBORO — Carolyn L. "Rosebud" Baltzell-Stowers, 61, of Murphysboro, died at 1:15 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at her home after a struggle with cancer.

She was born Oct. 24, 1943, in Murphysboro, a daughter of the late Elvin G. and Lena Cora (Maglone) Thomas.

Carolyn was a retired nurse's aide at the former Tyler's Nursing Home in Murphysboro and had also worked at Sauer's Apple Orchard.

She is survived by four children and their spouses, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three sisters, several special friends, and her beloved pets.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved soulmate, Tommy Stowers I; a brother, George "Bud" Thomas; two sisters, Betty Howard and July Kay Blaise; and two infant brothers.

Services for Carolyn will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9 at Crain Funeral Home Pleasant Grove Chapel, Old Illinois 13 between Carbondale and Murphysboro, with the Rev. Dean Akins officiating. Interment will be in Hiller Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Crain Funeral Home Pleasant Grove Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
