    DECATUR — Ilmar Palm-Leis, 61, of Decatur died Saturday (Nov. 2, 1991) in St. Mary's Hospital.

    Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Brintlinger's Funeral Home on Oakland Avenue, with visitation 5 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. Memorials: Commodore Decatur Yacht Club, in care of Brintlinger's.

    Mr. Palm-Leis was born in Tallinn, Estonia, on Dec. 31, 1929, the first son of Lembit and Marta Palm-Leis. He graduated from Estonian Gumnaasium High School in the Estonian Displaced Persons Camp at Geislingen/Stg in 1949. His favorite interests included choral singing, track and field, woodworking, photography and painting.

    After immigrating to the United States in 1949, Mr. Palm-Leis became a United States citizen in 1955. He continued his education at Millikin University, the University of Illinois and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1957 with a B.S. degree in naval architecture and marine engineering. He was employed 31 years as an engineer at A.E. Staley Mfg. Co. and has been an engineering consultant since his retirement.

    He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Commodore Decatur Yacht Club, Thistle Class Association and an Estonian fraternity. Over the years Mr. Palm-Leis had a variety of interests and hobbies, ranging from singing and wood crafting and boat building. He continued a life-long love with water and sailing various boats.

    He married Carolyn Meadows in 1977.

    Surviving are his wife; mother, Marta of Carlsbad, Calif.; brothers, Lembit of Carlsbad, Calif.; Ahto of Toronto, Canada; Mati of Iola, Wis.; former wife Meelike Palm-Leis of St. Louis, Mo.; sons, ----- and daughter-in-law ----- of Pana; ----- of Springfield; granddaughter, ----- of Pana; stepchildren
    ----- ----- of Johnson City, Tenn.; ----- ----- of Los Angeles, Calif.
