Private graveside services for Billy Wilson Burgess, 72, will be held at a later date. He died Thursday from complications of emphysema at Hemet Valley Medical Center. Hemet Valley Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Mr. Burgess, who was born in Long Beach, lived in Hemet 10 years. He was a clerk for Consolidated Lumber Co. for 30 years in Long Beach. After retiring in 1981, he and his wife started a child care center in their home for more than nine years in Long Beach where they cared for 109 children over the years.

He enjoyed ceramics and building doll houses.

Mr. Burgess is survived by his wife of 29 years, Leona; five sons, Jimmy Wilson Burgess, William Charles Burgess and ----- Larsen, all of Long Beach, ----- Burgess of Orange and ----- Larsen of Wildomar; two daughters, ----- Larsen and ----- Evans, both of Long Beach; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
