2 IOWA WOMEN DIE IN BLAZE
No Inquest Planned in Elkader Farm Fire
ELKADER, (AP) —  Clayton County Coroner D. E. Lowe said here Thursday that no inquest will be held in the death of two farm women in a fire which destroyed their home about three miles south of Littleport.
The victims were Mrs. Etta Beatty, 72, and her daughter, Jenny, 30. Emory Beatty, 80, husband and father, was not burned, although he is suffering from shock and exposure.
Origin of the blaze remains unknown.
Sheriff E. W. Carlsen said Mrs. Beatty was awakened by the fire and aroused her husband and daughter. The wife then went to the home of the hired man, who in turn summoned the Garber fire department. When the hired man reached the burning house, he found only the husband at the scene. The charred bodies of the mother and daughter were found later in the basement debris. Sheriff Carlsen expressed the belief that the two women re-entered the home to save personal belongings and were trapped.
The property loss was estimated at $4,060.
