bullet  Recorded Events about their Marriage

  • They have conflicting marriage information of 28 August 1838 and Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland. In the transcription of parish records from FamilySearch, the marriage date of 28 Aug 1838 is given as occurring in the Relief Congregation of Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland.  This is actually the date of a session meeting where the case of Margaret Allan's "antenuptial fornication" with William McMichael (her husband) was discussed.

"Alexander Russel stated that Margaret Allan, member of the Congregation, was guilty of antenputial fornication with William McMichael, blacksmith, Greenock; being called to the bar, she judicially acknowledged the same, was suitably admonished, and Mesrs. Russel and Johnston were appointed to converse with her and report."
