Charles Harris was a Sea Captain, and after owning his own sailing ships, he became the first Captain of a Steamship with the Adelaide Steamship Company. He was found floating in the harbour at Port Adelaide, South Australia; he had been murdered. All the contents of the Ship's safe were missing and never recovered. Charles was greatly respected, and flags were flown at half mast after his death.
