    Margaret Busby's Life  in 1871

    In 1871 Margaret worked as a housekeeper for a Woollen Tweed manufacturer in Wilton, Roxburghshire.  His name was Walter Laing and he employed 392 men and 306 women.

    The Laings'- Walter 50 & Euphemia 48, had  4 of a family, Walter John 18, a Woollen manufacturer, twins John Turnbull, a hosiery manufacturer, and Ronald,  who was still attending school, were  both 16, and Violetta 7, whom Margaret  named her daughter after later when she married. The daughter was my grandmother Violetta (Letta) Morison.

    Margaret was 28, other members of the household were: Mary Baptie 24,the cook  & Alison Wight 20, the table maid.
