Monica A. Ryder

Monica A. Ryder, 71, of County Highway 155, Gloversville, died Sunday, December 10, 2006 at Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany.

She was born in Canton, Ohio on December 6, 1935, a daughter of Myles A. and Catherine M. Chevraux Clark and was a 1953 graduate of Catholic Central in Canton. Monica lived in Port Henry, New York and later moved to Florida. She had resided in Broadalbin for the past eight years.

Monica and her former husband owned and operated the Rustic Cellar Restaurant & Tavern in Port Henry for nearly 20 years.

At age 50, she started to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. Monica was a certified nurse assistant for nearly 20 years and worked mainly with hospice patients in Florida.

She was a communicant of St. Ann's Church in Wells and also attended St. Joseph's Church in Broadalbin.

Monica was a former member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas when she resided in Port Henry. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Florida and most recently in Broadalbin. In addition, she was a member of the Red Belles of Wells, a chapter of the Red Hat Society. Monica also served as the financial secretary of the NYS Liquor Dealers Association in Essex County for 10 years.

She was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served during the Korean Conflict.

Monica was predeceased by an infant son, Michael David; a daughter, Christine Murray; and two brothers, Richard and Patrick Clark.

Cremation was performed at Parkview Crematorium, Schenectady. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 7 North Street, Broadalbin with the Rev. Paul J. Kelly officiating. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 38 West Main Street, Broadalbin. Final burial of the remains with military honors will be held on Friday at 11:30 a.m. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon - Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, both in care of the funeral home.
