    Vera Hawkins Gardner, 87, of Chittenango, passed away Wednesday at Rome Memorial Hospital. Born in the Town of Vernon, Vera had been a resident of Chittenango since 1966. She was employed as a legal secretary for attorney Robert Benson in Chittenango for 10 years. She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Chittenango. Vera was a member of the Town of Sullivan Leisure Time Club and was a volunteer with the Chittenango Canal Boat Landing Museum and the Chittenango Rotary Club. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Gardner and a stepson, Douglas Gardner.

    Surviving are her sons, ----- (-----) Meacham of N. Syracuse and ----- (-----) Meacham of Chittenango; her daughters, ----- ----- (-----) of Tennessee and ----- ----- (-----) of Canastota; her step-grandchildren, ----- (-----) Gardner of Binghamton and ----- Gardner, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

    Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the G.F. Zimmer Funeral Home, 702 Legion Drive, Chittenango. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Chittenango. Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, prior to the service.

    Contributions may be made to the Town of Sullivan Leisure Time Club.
