General Notes

"(89). (Capt.) Silvester Richmond 4 (Ebenezer 3, John 2, John 1) was born in Middleboro, November 25, 1711.  He married, first, December 9, 1736, Abiah Elliott, daughter of Thomas and Mercy (Walker) Elliott.  He settled in New Braintree.  She died July 20, 1789, and he married, secondly, September 23, 1790, Mrs. Hannah Pratt.  He died December 9, 1804, and she, July 22, 1808. 

He was a captain in the old French wars, and was distinguished for his bravery and kindness to his soldiers.  He endured great hardships and suffering on the return from Crown Point, being at one time three days without food.  He, however, brought back every man in his company."  (from the genealogy by Joshua Bailey Richmond)

• He appeared on the 1790 US Federal Census on 2 August 1790 in New Braintree, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA. ⁴
  
  1790 census:  Sylvester Richmond in New Braintree, Worcester, Massachusetts:
  Free white males 16 and older:  3  [this would be Sylvester b1746, son Sylvester, and unknown]
  Free white males under 16: 3  [Elijah, Jonathan, and James]
  Free white females: 4 [Elizabeth, Catherine, Betsey, and Lucena]
  All other free persons: 0
  Slaves: 0
  
  The unknown male might be Captain Silvester Richmond (Sylvester b1746's father), just before Capt Silvester remarried to Mrs. Hannah Pratt.  However, new theory that Jonathan Richmond the elder might have survived.  Would explain the count.  And Captain Silvester may be the extra male in the household of Perez Cobb (who married Capt Silvester's daugther Abbiah) since in 1800, there's an older couple living in the Perez Cobb household.
