  Four Months After Her Marriage.

  OAKLAND, April 28. - Mrs. Blanche Moser of Elmhurst is in a quandary. About four months ago she became the bride of Charles E. Moser, aged 76 years, and to-day she made the discovery that the man she supposed to be her husband has never been divorced from his first wife, Mrs. Margaret E. Moser. This discovery was made by looking up the divorce records in the County Clerk's office. It was at the suggestion of her neighbors that Mrs. Moser consulted the records to learn the civil status of the man she has been calling husband. She had mentioned to one of her neighbors that she was going to pay the taxes on her husband's property. The neighbor then suggested to her that Moser had not been divorced from his first wife and she would be losing her money if she paid the taxes on the property.
  Shortly afterward Mrs. Moser called at the County Clerk's office and asked permission to look at the divorce records. She was shown the book and found that, although the first wife had commenced proceedings for a divorce in 1893, no decree had ever been granted in the case. On February 14, 1894, the report of the Court Commissioner was filed in the case, but no further proceedings were taken. The first wife, who is now 72 years of age, is residing at Healdsburg.
  The second wife, who is hardly half the age of Moser, told her story to-day as follows: "Mr. Moser and I were married in San Francisco on December 19th last by Justice of the Peace Dunn. My name was then Neuman. I had been divorced from my former husband about five years. I obtained a divorce on the ground of cruelty. Mr. Moser told me that he had been divorced from his wife four years and l did not question his statement. Now I do not know what I shall do. I cannot live at home now until I learn whether or not I am really married to Mr. Moser. I married him more out of pity than anything else. We were neighbors and he was lonely after his wife left him. I agreed to become his wife and take care of his home. Since then I have redeemed his property that was sold to the State for delinquent taxes. He has one daughter and I have a little girl. Now l will have to consult a lawyer before I can do anything."
