General Notes

RUBY LILLIAN POWELL was born 19 April 1909 on the family farm near Wapinitia, Wasco County, Oregon, USA.  She was the daughter of John Melvin Powell, and his wife, Della Alice White.  She was one of 10 children, although an older brother died as a toddler before she was born. 

On 03 June 1929, in Manor, Clark County, Washington, USA, Ruby married her first husband, Floyd Lawrence Richmond, son of Rolla Wrightson Richmond and Nancy Frances Maglone (and brother-in-law to her older sister Alma).  He was born on 03 Oct 1905 in Noble, Richland County, Illinois, USA.  Floyd was very charming, and fun to be around (everyone agrees he had the best personality), but (as a family member put it), he was a bit of a "stinker."  He was occasionally irreponsible and, before their marriage, Floyd had a bit of a reputation as a womanizer.  He died young as the result of an automobile accident, at only 29 years old (and after only 6 years of marriage).  Ruby and Floyd had no children together.  Floyd was buried in Kelly Cemetery on Juniper Flat, near Maupin, Wasco County, Oregon.  Ruby's name was engraved on Floyd's gravestone; her cenotaph can be seen by clicking here. 

Ruby next married Paul Reynolds on 17 September 1938 in Bend, Deschutes County, Oregon, USA.  Charles Paul Verton Reynolds was born 23 January 1904 in Deadwood, Lawrence County, South Dakota, USA, the son of James Perry Reynolds and Mary Katherine Robinson.  He worked as a bank cashier.  Together they had three children — two daughters and a son.  Paul died 13 November 1977 in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, USA.  He was buried in Pilot Butte Cemetery in Bend, Oregon.  Once again, Ruby's name was on the gravestone; her second cenotaph can be seen by clicking here.

Finally, Ruby married Donald Read Jackson.  Donald was born 05 August 1911, probably in South Dakota (although he grew up in Oregon).  Like Ruby, Donald had lost his first wife.  They married on 29 November 1980 in Multnomah County, Oregon, and were married for 6 1/2 years before Ruby died on 23 June 1987 in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, USA.  Ruby was buried in Fir Lawn Cemetery in Hillsboro, Washington County, Oregon, USA. Donald married one more time, to Catherine, and when he died in Portland on 23 Sep 2000, he was also buried in Fir Lawn Cemetery.
