bullet  General Notes

Edwin Andrew went by Andy. Not much is known about him as a youth. His children said that he never talked about his family much. Andy enlisted in the Army in The Dalles in 1918. He went first to Fort McArthur, then he was sent to France. He was stationed in several cities there, from 10/26/1918 until 3/1919. He was hospitalized in France for a severe case of the flu. He arrived back in New York, on 4/2/1919, and was sent to a hospital at Fort Lewis. He was discharged on 4/26/1919 with an honorable medical discharge. On 4/10/1920, he recieved the Oregon Bronze Medal. He was a rancher by trade, and must have wandered to E. Oregon, by 1921. He met and married Lula Powell on 8/16/1921. Stories of him as a young man, are few. One of his sons-in-laws, spoke of him leaving the house at the break of dawn during the depression, and only taking a shovel with him. He would return at dusk with a small amout of money to show for his days work. By the time he was of retirement age, he had fallen ill to a variety of ailments. He died at 69 years old.
