Harry married Enid Mary Ellingsworth on 26 July 1946 in England and came to the US shortly thereafter.  He worked as a teacher in 1930 and as an engineer in 1946.

Enid was born in Blantyre, Nyasaland (now Blantyre, Malawi).  She was 7 years younger than Harry.  She was the daughter of George A. Ellingworth (1881–1942) and Mary Emma Long (1885 –1966).
