Bessie was the adopted daughter of Robert Boyd Haining and Elizabeth Allan Balmer.  She married twice, but had no children.  After she had a stroke which confined her to a wheelchair, she was cared for by Nancy (b. Mitchell) Mawhinney at her home in Bourtreehill.
