General Notes
Pat was a Scottish international rugby union fullback who played club rugby for London Scottish F.C. and international rugby for Scotland. He played one Test for Scotland, against Wales in 1885. In 1905 he completed what is surely a unique double for a rugby international, in that he refereed the FA Cup Final between Aston Villa and Newcastle United. He was well-known for his career as a referee.
Harrower moved with his family from Broughty Ferry near Dundee, where he was born, to Middlesex, England in 1879. At the time he was selected for international duty in 1885, he was playing for Scottish exiles team, London Scottish. His one and only international appearance was for Scotland, against Wales in the 1885 Home Nations Championship standing in for the team's regular fullback, James Veitch. The match ended in a 0-0 draw, with the Welsh team accused of trying to kill the game by their players continually lying on the ball. The next game, Veitch returned to the squad and Harrower never represented his country again.
Harrower's refereeing career reached its peak when he officiated the 1905 FA Cup Final between Aston Villa and Newcastle. He refereed several international games, with three recorded friendlies between 1906 and 1908, all three games being played between Belgium and the Netherlands.

From John Craven's family history, "Patrick Harrower... was judge at soccer games and pigeon shows."

"Pat's" Record.
Mr. "Pat" Harrower, who will referee the Final Tie on the 15th, is a Scot by birth, but he left his country in 1879, and for some time played in London as a Rugby three-quarter back on behalf of a club called the Reindeer. Then the London Scottish claimed his services, and in the season 1895-6 he won his Scottish cap. Later on, however, turned his attention to the Association game, and played for some time on behalf of Enfield as a centreforward.
