General Notes
Emily was born at Ayr, Ontario in 1833 and spent her childhood at Jerseyville, Ontario. In 1844, at the age of 11, she accompanied her brother James to Michigan where they boarded that year with the Bolton family in Eaton County. In the spring of 1845, she accompanied her brother and sister to Keene Township, Ionia County, which had a thriving Canadian settlement at that time. She spent the next several years boarding with the Hubbard family there. In 1850, Emily was residing with the Thompson Daniels family in Vergennes Township.
About 1851, she married Richard Sprague of Eaton County. He was born in Northampton, Fulton County, New York on December 19, 1827, the son of Elijah and Rebecca (Cadman) Sprague.
Children
William E. (b. ~1852)
George L. (b. June? 1854, possibly died young)
Darius Edwin (b. 1855/56)
Franklin (b. April, 1858)
Burton (b. July? 1860)
Minnie (b. 1868/1869)
In 1860, they were living in Keene Township where Richard worked as a farmer. In 1870, Richard was living in Lowell with his six children. Emily is not listed as being in the household, but Emily's sister, Elizabeth Winegarden, is recorded as being in the household and keeping house. Not finding Emily is the records after this date, it is highly possible that Emily died during childbirth delivering Minnie or shortly thereafter.
Records indicate that Richard may have married two more times; to a Nancy Drews first and later to a Mary J. Miller. He was supposedly living in Mecosta County, Michigan in 1900.
