    Died At Her Home Near Elkport Monday, March 8.
    Funeral Held Thursday, At Pleasant Valley.

    Mary Elizabeth Pugh was born near Scales Mound, Jo Daviess county, Illinois, June 29, 1847, and died at her home near Elkport, Iowa, March 8, 1909.

    In the year 1854 she came to town with her parents who made their future home in Clayton county. She was married to James A. McLane in 1863. She was the mother of seven children, four of whom died in infancy. Those still living are William Lester, James L. and Viola who, with their father, are left in deep sorrow by the removal of a kind and generous hearted wife and mother.

    The funeral services were held at the Pleasant Valley schoolhouse on Thursday, March 11, and were conducted by Rev. C.H. True. Many neighbors and friends were present to evidence their respect for the departed one and to lend their aid and sympathy to the afflicted family and numerous relatives.
