27 December 1809 (17 July 1809) - Settlement of David Smith, candlemaker in Haddington. He appointed as his Trustees, John Martine, currier in Haddington and James Forrest, senior, saddler there. In particular, they were to collect £100 Sterling which was in the hands of John Wright, cloth merchant in Edinburgh and £100 in the hands of David Wright, baker in Edinburgh which had been deposited with them by his grandson, Andrew Smith. They were to pay Hay Smith, his son £20 Sterling and a bequest to be divided amongst Jean, Janet and Maria Smiths, daughter of his deceased son, David Smith when they were able to provide for themselves. The residue was to be divided amongst David Smith, eldest son of Hay Smith and James, Lilias, Alison and Janet Forrests, daughters of the said James Forrest. He also left £20 to his daughter, Janet Smith
