Martha Angeline Browning was born in 1858 in Indiana. Her parents were John A. and Elizabeth Browning. Her parents were both born in Virginia. She married Dr John Wesley Powell on April 4, 1878 in Centropolis, Franklin, Kansas. John and Angeline had seven children. Bertha, John and Lily all died in childhood of scarlet fever. The other four were: Gertrude A Powell, Myrtle P Powell, Stella Powell and Frederick Gordan Powell.
