Gordon Rodell Schultz, 84, of Grand Island died Friday, May 27, 2011, at Tiffany Square Care Center. Gordon was born June 23, 1926, in Grand Island to Albert Sr. and Clara (Windolph) Schultz.
Gordon married Norma White Oct. 26, 1947. They were married 63 years and she preceded him in death.
Survivors are five children, 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a sister.
Gordon was educated and graduated from Grand Island High School. After graduation, Gordon entered the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He was inducted on Aug. 30, 1944, and his tour of duty lasted through June 29, 1946. He attained the rank of sergeant, serving in Europe.
As a young man, Gordon lived on an acreage on Seedling Mile. He was a hard worker, supporting his father in the daily routines of Knickrehm meat market.
Gordon loved his family. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, attending their many events over the years.
Gordon worked for Fairacres and Robert's Dairies as a sales supervisor for 28 years. He also worked as a manager at Burger King, a salesman at Oil Dealers Association, and lastly, as a courier for Equitable Building and Loan, retiring at the age of 80, to care for and share time with his beloved, Norma.
Gordon enjoyed Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights, dancing with Norma, watching TV, and puttering in his garage. He took meticulous care of his yard, as well as his lineage of '98 Oldsmobiles.
Gordon moved out of the home he and Norma shared for 41 years on East 19th Street in the spring of 2011. He resided at Riverside Lodge for a month, prior to his past few weeks at Tiffany Square.
Gordon was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Platt-Duetsche, Veterans Club, United Commercial Travelers, the VFW, and the Liederkranz. Gordon also served on the School Board of District 74 (Seedling Mile School).
Gordon was preceded in death by his wife, Norma; parents; his sister, Mildred, and her husband, Jacob; his brother, Albert Jr. 'Bus," and his wife, Erline; and brother-in-law, George Paulsen.
