MARTHA LORENE FORD

Martha Lorene Ford, age 87, a resident of Uniontown, Kan., died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, at her home.
She was born March 29, 1920, in Marion, S.D., the daughter of Henry Goering and Mary Kauffman Goering. She married Leon Ford in 1942 in Wichita. He preceded her in death in 1985.
She was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Uniontown. She worked with her husband for many years at their Ford Electric shop at 119 E. First St., in Fort Scott. They moved to their farm in Uniontown in 1955.
She loved the farm and being outdoors, fishing and watching animals. She saw herself as a custodian of the land that belongs to God and was proud to have won a Conservation Award in 1986. She enjoyed quilting and reading, having finished 99 books already this year.
At the age of 65, she returned to Nursing School first at FSCC, and then at Pittsburg State University, completing her degree in 1989. She then worked as a registered nurse at the Marmaton Valley Nursing Home for 11 years.
Martha is survived by five sons; one brother; two sisters; 18 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and one more on the way.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Dewey and George Ford; two brothers, Ellis and Ralph Goering; and four grandchildren.
There was cremation. There will be a short graveside service for Martha Ford at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, at the Uniontown Cemetery. Following at 10:30 a.m. family and friends will gather at the First Missionary Baptist Church for a time of remembering and sharing.
The family will receive friends for visitation Thursday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to the City Park of Uniontown, and may be left in care of Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main St., Fort Scott, Kan., 66701.
