Obituary:  Betty L. Nunemaker

Betty Louise Nunemaker of Doylestown died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Pine Run Health Center. She was 86.

Betty was the wife of James P. Nunemaker, who died in 1999.

Born in Williamsport, Pa., Betty was the daughter of the late Earl and Beatrice Miller.

Mrs. Nunemaker graduated from Pennsylvania State University in State College with a degree in education, and taught school after graduation in Lititz and Bradford, both in Pennsylvania.

While in Bradford, she met James Paul Nunemaker, and they married in August of 1947.

After time in Bradford and Johnstown, Pa., they moved to Doylestown in August 1960.

Betty was a scout leader, and was active in the Village Improvement Association as president from 1974 to 1976. She was chair of the Hospital Committee of the VIA from 1982 to 1986, and the first chair of the Hospital Board for the last three months of her term. She was also pivotal in the decision to move Doylestown Hospital to its current campus and in the restructuring to a hospital board.

Betty is survived by a son and his wife; a daughter and her husband; and three grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, at Doylestown Presbyterian Church, 127 E. Court St., Doylestown, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be held privately in Doylestown Cemetery.
