General Notes
PHILLP C. ROBERTS was born December 30 1939 in Duchesne, Utah, the son of Benjamin Christopher Cluff and his wife, Cleona Lavet Wheeler. It is quite possible that the "C" in Phillip's middle name stands for his biological father's middle name of "Christopher" or his surname "Cluff," but there is not a source for this speculation currently.
Only a few days after his birth, Phillip's mother died tragically from peritonitis and a ruptured appendix. For reasons unknown to us, other than the unfortunate circumstances Ben found himself in, Phillip's father made the difficult decision to put his newborn infant up for adoption.
Julia Leavett Thompson (Cleona's first cousin) and her husband Thomas Jefferson Roberts were blessed with the opportunity to adopt the baby boy. Julia was 44 and Thomas 47 years old at the time, and though fairly old to be new parents, they had a great deal of love and stability to offer Phillip.
When Phillip was 8 years old, he was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ten years later, he chose to marry his sweetheart, ----- ----- White of Latuda, Utah. They were married June 19, 1958 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah.
Phillip also joined the military and was a First Class Private in the Army. He served in Troop B, 3rd Squadron, 4th Cavalry, 25th Infantry Division.
He and Mary didn't waste time starting their family, and they quickly expanded on it. They were blessed with three healthy children, but their fourth, James Scott Roberts, was born and passed away on 29 November 1963 in Hawaii.
The following year, the young family suffered their greatest blow, the death of Phillip himself. It appears that on 7 April 1964 he was on a truck during a moving trip and some how fell off sustaining fatal injuries. Phillip was 24.
