Although other researchers have identified this John Paterson as the son of William Paterson and Agnes Bane (baptized 05 Feb 1716 in Dunipace, Stirlingshire, Scotland), I think parents from the parish of St. Ninians are more likely.  I suspect John Paterson and Jannet Cuthull may be his true parents, but there are a number of John Patersons born in St. Ninians in the right time period to be the husband of Ann Heugh.  Without better proof one way or another, I am leaving John Paterson's birth and his parentage unidentified.  Oct 2010, kmh.
