Jean Erdman dies, mother of publisher of Home News
NEW YORK CITY — Jean Maclachlan Erdman of 35 East 76th Street died Aug. 30 at Southampton Hospital, Southampton, after a short illness.
She was the mother of William M. Boyd of Princeton, N.J., publisher and president of the Home News Publishing Col, parent company of the Housatonic Valley Publishing Co., which publishes The Pawling News Chronicle.
Mrs. Erdman had been vacationing at her Bridgehampton home.
In addition to her son, Mrs. Erdman is survived by her husband, James P. Erdman, former president of Cancer Care Inc., and currently a member of the board of trustees of Cancer Care, Lenox Hill Hospital and the Lighthouse for the Blind; one other son, ----- Copley of Del Mar, Calif., a daughter, ----- Copley of Los Angeles; four grandchildren, ----- ----- ----- of Carmel Valley, Calif., ----- ----- Boyd of Denver, Colo., ----- ----- Boyd of Yardley, Pa., and ----- Copley of Del Mar, and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Erdman was born in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Her first husband was the late Hugh N. Boyd, former chairman of the board of directors of the Home News Publishing Co. They were married in 1932 and lived in the New Brunswick area. They were divorced in 1946.
Her second husband was the late James Copley, chairman of the board of Copley Newspapers Inc., San Diego, Calif.
Services were held Friday at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel in New York City. Burial was at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y.
