Hickory, N.C. — LaWanna Wallis White, 77, of Valley Road, Hickory, passed away Sept. 2, 2008, at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro.
LaWanna was born Aug. 14, 1931, in Jackson, Mo., to the late Herl and Mabel Barrett Wallis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Ray White.
She was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Davis Sunday school class and also active in the Presbyterian Women's Association. She was a member of the WPO (Widowed Persons Organization) and the Canasta Card Club. She loved to travel, work in her garden and paint, and especially loved to dance.
A committal service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, in Catawba Memorial Park.
Following the committal service, a memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Northminster Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. James Bernhardt officiating. The family will fellowship after the service.
Surviving are a daughter, ----- ----- of Hickory; son, -----White and wife, -----, of Bethlehem; grandson, ----- ----- White of Bethlehem; and a special friend, Boyce H. Jones of Hudson. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at Hickory Funeral Home.

LaWanna married Allen Ray WHITE, son of Walter Preston WHITE and Edith May GILLESPIE, on 12 July 1952 in Jackson, Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, USA. (Allen Ray WHITE was born on 2 May 1933 in Sumter, Sumter County, South Carolina, USA, died on 16 August 1988 in Pageland, Chesterfield County, South Carolina, USA and was buried in 1988 in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina, USA.). The cause of his death was twin-engine airplane crash near the Pageland airport runway.
