JoAnn Hulse
JoAnn Hulse, 75, of Pasco, Wash., died June 8, 2007, from Alzheimer's at her home in the Tri-City Retirement Center, Franklin Wing.
Her graveside funeral will be Thursday, June 14, at noon at the Pine Haven Cemetery in Halfway. Pastor Shawn Thatcher of the Pine Valley Baptist Church will officiate. Coles Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
JoAnn was born on Sept. 17, 1931, to Claude and Rachel (Makinson) Krigbaum. She was raised in the Wallowa Mountains of Halfway. In 1949 she graduated from Pine Valley High School. She married the love of her life, Herb Hulse, on May 28, 1949. They were married 58 years. She and Herb helped on the family's dairy farm and Herb also worked on the Oxbow Dam. They had 3 children, -----, -----, and -----.
The Hulse family move to Burbank, Wash., in May 1959. They acquired a 150-acre farm, located in Block 3 under the Homestead Act. JoAnn was a very busy housewife. She loved taking care of the household, enjoyed baking bread, cakes, cookies and candy. She also spent many hours reading and sewing clothing for her children. JoAnn gave birth to their fourth child, -----, in the winter of 1960. JoAnn was known to be a lot of fun. She knew lots of funny sayings, and she joked and teased a lot. She enjoyed the life of a farm family, seeing the fruit of all their hard labor. They farmed this land until 1968.
In 1968, the family bought raw land and cleared it for alfalfa crops, built a new home and farmed this land in Block 17, north of Pasco. The family farmed until 1972 when the two older children graduated from high school, college, and moved away from home. Herb and JoAnn felt they could not farm without the help of the two older children and sold the land and moved the family again to Eltopia, Wash., where Herb worked for the South Columbia Irrigation District until retirement.
Herb and JoAnn retired to Kennewick, Wash., where JoAnn enjoyed reading, sewing, baking, fishing, traveling, gambling, yard sales, walking, and time with her grandchildren.
JoAnn is survived by her husband, Herb of Renton Wash.; her son ----- and his wife, -----, of Renton; daughters, ----- and her husband, ----- ----- of Kennewick, ----- and her husband, ----- ----- of Pasco, and ----- and her husband, ----- -----, of Coos Bay; a brother, ----- Krigbaum and his wife, -----; a sister, ----- ----- and her husband, -----; six granddaughters and three grandsons; an aunt, ----- ----- of Baker City; sisters-in-law, ----- ----- ----- of Halfway and ----- ----- of Pasco; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
The family wishes to offer their heartfelt gratitude to the care-givers at Tri-city Retirement Inn, Franklin Wing. Their devotion and love and care for JoAnn was exceptional, and words could never express their love and care for mom. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice at the Chaplaincy, 2108 W.
