Other names for Leona were Leona GAMBREL, Leona HAYES and Leona MYERS. General Notes She wore a size 5 show. She smoked a very dark brown cigarette called "More" cigarettes. She used a butane lighter that had a distinct smell. Her ash tray was silver with two alligator heads in the center. The alligator's mouthwash were open, creating a holding place for the cigarette. She was 5' 1 1/2", weighed around 140 pounds. She was an amazing cook. She made a full dinner including dessert every evening. Her front porch was always covered with flowers. Kenton built her a greenhouse to help with the flowers. She was also extremely crafty. She taught me to double crochet as a little girl. She was always working with yarn, painting ceramics, or making myrtle nut mice. She made us sweaters out of crochet squares for Christmas. This was super hype in the 1970s. She used to have two huge Myrtle trees in her front yard, one on either side of the front walk way. They had to be cut down because they were diseased. There was also a walnut tree in the side of her house. She would bring the nuts inside, place them on a tall custom made drying rack next to her oil burning stove. The same process was used for the Myrtle nuts. Over her dining groom table hung a sign that read, "Be sure that brain is engaged before putting mouth into gear." There was. Fifty cent piece attached to this plaque as well for some reason. The first room to the right just inside the front door was the "gun room". Children were strictly prohibited from entering this room, a rule that was ALWAYS obeyed. Grandpas "place" was half laying on the living room couch, watching TV while he awaited his dinner. The first stop upon entering the house was to hug grandpa and get a "whisker". He would rub his cheek against mine. Grandma was most always in the kitchen. Recorded Events in Her Life
