General Notes

WILLIAM RAY GODFREY was born 03 October 1914 in Douglas County, Oregon, USA.  Following family tradition, he was known by his middle name, Ray.  He was the son of Rufus Emery Godfrey and Effie Olive Swift, but he was orphaned in 1918 when he was barely 4 years old. (Since both his parents died in October 1918, it's likely they died of the flu.) Ray was raised by his grandparents, William Richardson Godfrey and Iva Jane Root. He died in Santa Clara County, California on 21 July 1973, and was buried in Gilroy in the Gavilan Hills Memorial Park and Catholic Cemetery.
