General Notes
Jennetta's Welcome to the World
Jennetta was born at sea, on a ship crossing the Atlantic. She was abandonded by her birth mother, and adopted by Rev. Oaks family, and raised in Dubuque, Iowa. She was a gentle, loving Mother, who never raised her voice, with one exception. Upon her husband's death in 1888, well meaning relatives wanted to divide her family to help her raise the children. She protested, LOUDLY, kept her family intact, and raised her children alone. This is a story passed down from my Grandmother, Rose McLane.

Birth Notes
Although the majority of records say that Jennetta was born in Iowa (a few say Wisconsin), Jennetta was actually born in International Waters on an American ship crossing the Atlantic Ocean. She was abandonded by her birth mother, and adopted by the Rev. Oaks family, and then raised in Dubuque, Iowa.
