NORWALK — Marian Beverly Klausman Klaas, a World War II veteran, died May 2. She was 88.
Marian was born in Wadena, Minn. and moved to Los Angeles in 1941.
In May of 1944, during WWII, she joined the Army Air Force, serving first in the Air Transport Command and later as a medical technician at Westover Field in Massachusetts.
She was discharged in May 1948 as a WAC Cpl. In her later years, she became a member of the American Legion Post 359 in Norwalk.
On returning to Huntington Park, she attended Wilshire School of Photography. In 1950, she married William Robert Klaas (now deceased) and had a son, Douglas Bruce Klaas. As her son grew, she became active in the Boys Scouts and he became an Eagle Scout.
She also became a co-leader for the Girl Scout Troop 299 sponsored by Bell Gardens Kiwanis.
Over the years she worked for Bank of America, Crown Bus and Russ Transportation, a school bus company for special education children. She retired in 1991.
Marian is survived by her two brothers, Douglas Jerome Klausman of Norwalk and ----- ----- Klausman of Portland, Ore. An infant sister, Ellen Christiana, is deceased.
