General Notes
EDMUND WILLIAM CAIRNCROSS was born 26 Dec 1873 in Shakespeare, Ontario, Canada, the son of James Cairncross and Elizabeth Lindsey of Scotland. Shortly after his birth his family moved to Birtle, Manitoba, Canada.
As a young man, Edmund worked as a carpenter and builder in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It was there that he met Eva Maude Morrow (1874 –1947), a young lady from Listowel. Listowel was fairly close to his own birthplace of Shakespeare. Edmund married Eva in Winnipeg on 3 October 1899.
First-born was their daughter Bessie (1900), followed by Stanley (1902), and their son Joe (1907). Then about 1909 Ed took his family from Winnipeg and moved to Idaho to join his brother James. Youngest daughter Marcia was born in Buhl, Idaho in 1910.
After remaining in the Twin Falls area for a little over 10 years, the family then moved to California and settled in Glendale. In addition to his carpentry work, building houses and apartments, Edmund also became a real estate broker.
When a train hit his car at a road crossing in South Pasadena on 25 July 1939, Edmund Cairncross was killed outright. He was 65 years old. After the inquest, he was buried in Valhalla Memorial Gardens on 31 July 1939. His wife Eva lived for another 7˝ years until she died on 23 Jan 1947 at the age of 72 years. Eva was laid to rest at Glendale Forest Lawn.
