bullet  General Notes

RW Richmond was born in Manson in Calhoun County, Iowa (birth date being August 15, 1869).  He lived in Dubuque, Iowa with his mother (Lucinda) after his parents separated. In 1906 RWR and family left Noble and homesteaded in North Dakota.  He proved up on the homestead in 1908.  Rolla W married Nancy Maglone, whose family lived very near Elias Jewett's farm.  They had two sons: Rolla Everett and Floyd.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aunt Beulah tells the story that RW, as a young man, shot a deer a day for $1 to feed the lumber camp near Everett, Washington.  This was before he was married.  Aunt Beulah believes that RW must have come west on his own as a young man, and then later gone back to Illinois to marry, then returned west again.  When he got to Everett, Washington, he had only $8 in his pocket.  He spent most of that money on a new suit.  He persuaded a local photographer to give him a job helping him, so he went around Everett and the logging camp taking pictures.  Later he supported himself (or in addition to the photography? not sure) by shooting a deer a day.
When he was 16, Beulah says, he left home and went in search of his father, Charles Hesikiah Richmond.  When he found his father (in some saloon or other), he didn't make himself known at once.  But later he did speak with his father.  Beulah had a vague idea that Lucinda Moore had divorced Charles Hesikiah because of his drinking, but she wasn't sure about that.  (Recollections, August 2004, kmh)
