bullet  General Notes

VIOLA PEARL SWIFT was born 19 March 1888 in Tenmile, Douglas County, Oregon, USA, the daughter of George Franklin Swift and Emma Amelia Bushnell.  On 25 May 1908 in Douglas County, Oregon, she married her first husband, Walter Joseph Hinch. He was born 13 July 1878 in Oshkosh, Winnebago County, Wisconsin, USA, and died 08 September 1946 in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, USA.  Together, they had four children —  Harlan, Pauline, Donald and Renold —  but the marriage ended in divorce sometime before 1927.

On 29 March 1927 in Vancouver, Clark County, Washington, USA, Viola married her second husband, George Washington Cleveland. George was born 04 July 1891 in Columbus, Platte County, Nebraska, USA, and he died on 03 January 1948 in Coos Bay, Coos County, Oregon, USA. The marriage was witnessed by J. W. Cleveland and Edna Cleveland (George's brother and sister-in-law).  It was a short-lived marriage, because by the 1930 census George and Viola had divorced (and George was back together with his second wife, Nettie Howard, whom he had previously married in 1923).

In Vancouver, Clark County, Washington, USA, on 15 January 1936, Viola married her third and final husband, Alfred August Kern. He was born 30 August 1890 in Camas, Clark County, Washington, USA, the son of August Kern and Pauline Neukom. Viola died a number of years before her husband in Pacific County, Washington (where they were living at the time) on 08 December 1966. She was buried in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver, Clark County, Washington, USA. Twelve years later, on 22 March 1978 in Vancouver, Clark County, Washington, USA, Alfred died and was buried in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens in the same plot as Viola (Garden of Devotion, Blk 3, Lot 453).
