bullet  General Notes

Mary Helen was the older of the twins, being born a full five minutes before her brother Gene. She was named after three of her father's sisters. After her older sister Rita May died in childbirth, Mary Helen helped her mother care for the new infant, Rita. Six years later, when she was 19 years old, she married the husband of her dead sister. After eight years of marriage her husband Vinnie was killed in a car accident.

Mary Helen moved to Tampa with her two children in December 1951. At the time, she was pregnant with a daughter she would give up for adoption. In 1952 she was introduced to Fred Taeger by her future mother-in-law. Mary Helen and Fred lived in Florida. Fred was in construction work and the family moved often. Fred's pet name for MH was "Kitten," ut she declared one day that she was too old to be a kitten and adopted the name Kit, which all her friends used. After all the children were grown Fred and Kit lived for several enjoyable years in Saudi Arabia. When they came back to the States, they settled in Tallahassee.
