General Notes
BASIL THOMAS BLEASDALE was born 27 May 1861 in Chagrin Falls, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, USA, the son of Thomas Calvert Bleasdale and Mary Adeline Thorp. On 25 April 1888 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, Basil married Maria A. Thomas, born 27 February 1862 in Warrensville, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, USA. The couple settled in Cleveland, but Maria died of pneumonia on 6 May 1893, only 5 years after they married. There are no known children from this union. Maria was buried in Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland. Sometime after her death, Basil relocated to Iowa.
On 28 December 1904, in Adair, Iowa, Basil married his second wife, Anna Bertha Burmeister. Anna was born 11 August 1876 in Iowa County, Iowa, USA, the daughter of William Ernest Burmeister and Anna Margaret Sigg. Together they had one son, Laurence Thomas Bleasdale, born 28 May 1907 in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Bleasdales remained in Iowa for a number of years. Basil worked as a commercial traveller. Eventually, however, the family relocated out to California, settling in the Los Angeles area.
When he was 76 years old, Basil died suddenly in Los Angeles, on 3 September 1937. His funeral service was held on 7 September 1937 at the Wee Kirk o' the Heather Chapel in Forest Lawn Glendale Cemetery. He was cremated. A few months later, on 24 January 1938, Basil's cremains were interred at the Forest Lawn Glendale Cemetery (Florentine Columbarium, Niche 8167). His remains were there for the next 31 years. Then Basil's widow, Anna Burmeister Bleasdale, died on 27 March 1969 in Belmont, San Mateo County, California, USA. Basil's cremains were removed from the columbarium at Forest Lawn Glendale on 23 April 1969. Not quite a month later, on 20 May 1969, Basil's cremains, as well as those of his wife, Anna, and his daughter-in-law, Marvel, were all interred in their final resting spot at Alta Mesa Memorial Park (Mausoleum No. 1, Oak Room B, Niche 309) in Palo Alto, Santa Clara County, California, USA.
