• Fact: 17 July 1809, in Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland. Provost David Smith, Andrew's grandfather, made a provision in his will that directed his trustees to collect £200 Sterling on Andrew's behalf. In particular, the trustees were to collect £100 Sterling which was in the hands of John Wright, cloth merchant in Edinburgh and £100 in the hands of David Wright, baker in Edinburgh which had been deposited with them by his grandson, Andrew Smith. [David was Andrew's first cousin, just a few years older than him; John was David's older half-brother, related to Andrew by his aunt Janet's marriage to John's father, Robert Wright.]
