General Notes
DAVID HAINING was born 14 August 1795 in New Cumnock, Ayrshire, Scotland and baptized in the parish church just two days later. David was the son of James Haining and his wife Jean Currie. James was a farmer in Lithins, but David became a shoemaker.
On 11 April 1820, David married his wife, Margaret Currie, daughter of shoemaker John Currie and Margaret Beaumont. The marriage was registered in David's home parish of Sorn,
Ayrshire, Scotland, as well as in Margaret's home parish of Ochiltree. Perhaps David learned his trade from Margaret's father, and that is how they met... or perhaps they were cousins of some sort.
David and Margaret had 5 known sons; if there were daughters, their births were not recorded in the local parish registers. Their oldest son, David, born in 1821, was actually born in Durrisdeer, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, but his birth was also recorded in their home parish of Ochiltree, which is where most of their children were born. After David came John, James, and William. Youngest son Robert was born in Tarbolton in 1835. The family remained in Tarbolton for the rest of their days.
David died in Tarbolton on 11 December 1868 (not 1869 as is carved on the gravestone) and he was buried in the local churchyard. Just shy of two years later, his wife Margaret died on the first of November 1870 (not the second, as the gravestone says), and she too was buried in Tarbolton Churchyard.
