After the birth of Ansel, they began to plan to move to Oregon. In the spring of 1851 they joined a wagon train and headed for Oregon. However, when the the colder weather of autumn came, they were only as far as Utah, so they decided to spend the winter there (Adelia was born in January in Provo, Utah). The family reached Oregon the following summer and Alfred Collver took a Donation Land Claim in Douglas County. However the family moved several times before they found a home in Coos County which became their permanent home. (Our Colonial Lines, pp. 55-56)
