Death Notes John died sometime between 1851 and 1859; but the details of his death cannot be determined. John was alive for the census on 30 March 1851 and for the conception of his youngest son, Alexander (who was born about 1852 in Kilwinning). However, John was known to be deceased in 1859 when his eldest son John got married. According to a family story passed down by John's granddaughter, Jeanie (Mongtomery) Lind, John just mysteriously disappeared one night. Apparently, he had been working as a night watchman in a shipyard, and one night he never came home. John's wife and children always assumed that he fell into the sea and drowned. However, his body was never found. There is no death registration for John Greig, so either he disappeared before 1855 or the death was not recorded for lack of evidence (no body, no proof of death).
