DECATUR — Ada Mae Meadows, 90, of Decatur, Illinois, recently resided at Illini Heritage Nursing Home in Champaign. She died at 1:40 a.m., Thursday, December 27, 2007 in Heritage Nursing Home.
Services will be 2:30 p.m., Sunday, December 30 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, with visitation one hour preceding the funeral. Burial will be at a later date.
Mrs. Meadows was born September 4, 1917, in El Campo, Texas, and was the daughter of Walter and Elva Mallinson and the fifth of nine children. She lived in Decatur since she was 10 years old. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church for over 70 years and was involved with United Methodist Women and adult Sunday School Class. She volunteered for the American Red Cross for over 30 years in the physical therapy department of Decatur Memorial Hospital. She also was a volunteer at the Economy Shop, a resale store of the Grace United Methodist Church for over 15 years, serving as the store manager for two of those years. Ada Mae was a much loved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many. For many years she served as one of the lunchtime supervisors at Garfield Grade School. She continued her friendship with her co-workers fondly called "The Garfield Girls" long after they all retired from that job. She was a devoted Republican and proudly served as an election judge for many elections.
Ada Mae was married for 41 years to Robert Loyd Meadows in Arthur, Illinois May 3, 1937. He died in 1978.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. ----- (-----) -----, of Round Lake, Illinois, five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Carolyn Palm-Leis, son Ronald Lee Meadows, seven sisters, and one brother.
