bullet  General Notes

The 1930 census is a bit problematic.  Floyd's wife in 1920 (per census and WWI draft registration card) is Sarah; in 1930 Sarah Richmond is living with her sister as a widow.  However, there is a Floyd Richmond, born in 1880 in Iowa, who is a blacksmith, now living in Oklahoma City with a wife named Blanch.  According to this census, Floyd was married for the first time 2 years' previously.

It seems a bit too much of a coincidence for there to be two different Floyd Richmonds, both born in 1880 in Iowa, who are both blacksmiths (especially since they've never shown up as as two different people in other censuses and databases), so I believe that this listing in Oklahoma City is the Floyd Richmond who is the son of Charles Hezekiah Richmond.  The birth locations for his parents are wrong, but they are similarly wrong for his sister Gladys in her 1930 census enumeration.

Were Floyd and Sarah divorced?  Did Sarah not want to admit to being divorced, and said she was widowed instead? Did Floyd not want to tell his second wife that he had been previously married?  Or did Blanch give out the information to the census taker, and did she just not know when he'd been married previously, so she gave his age at their present marriage?

Perhaps the 1940 census (when it comes out) will be more illuminating.  November 2006, kmh.
