Other charges of driving an automobile while intoxicated, were dropped. But then on 11 Nov 1929, John was arrested for manufacturing moonshine. He was released on bail, but was convicted by a circuit court jury on 7 Jan 1930 in Jackson, Missouri; John was given a 3-year prison sentence. (Another man who had been arrested at the same time as John had pled guilty and got only 6 months' imprisonment.) Not quite a month later, on 28 Jan 1930, John was "called before the court and given an reduction of one year on grounds that the first sentence was excessive."  Eventually, though, on 31 Oct 1930, John was given parole and released from prison.
