General Notes

Elmer "Wade" and his first wife, Georgia "Roberta," separated  in 1932. Elmer just left.  They divorced about 12 years later, when Elmer married his second wife Chrystal.

Elmer and Chrystal lived on N. Haven street in Portland, Oregon in the early sixty's. Elmer was extremely particular about his lawn. He had his grandson Edward Dean mow it for him. It had to be in perfect diagonal lines, done with a hand mower. If it was not spaced correctly, Dean would have to re-mow it, much to his dismay.

Elmer and Chrystal were avid fisherman. In the 1960's it seemed as though they were always on a fishing trip. Chrystal and Elmer moved to Grants Pass in the late 1960's. Elmer bought 5 acres outside of Rogue River, Oregon. It was bordered on one side by a small creek, and was about 1 mile from a historical covered bridge. He and Chrystal grew almost everything on that 5 acres. They raised chickens, pigs, cows, and steer for meat, etc.  It was not unusual for Wade's son's family to come to Grants Pass to help with the harvest. It was many a summer night that you could see them all in the front yard, schucking black-eyed peas.

In the early 1970's, Chrystal started getting ill. She suffered from Alzeimers. Wade owned a gas station at the time, in Grants Pass. Many days, the neighbors had to call him, to come get Chrystal. She had a tendancy to strip, and walk down the highway. She became very combative, and thought Wade was her father. Wade hired in home care givers, but ended up having to put Chrystal in a nursing home, due to his own medical problems. He suffered many years from heart attacks and strokes.
