    Glenda Merle Pruett Smith

Born on June 13, 1927, Glenda went home to her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 11, 2009. She crossed over peacefully during her slumber. She was born in Olney, Texas. Her parents were Elmer Wade Pruett and Roberta Russell Pruett.
Glenda was a ward of the State of Texas during the Great Depression and resided at the orphanage in Corsicana, Texas, where she also attended school. There she met her lifelong friend and husband, William "Billy" O. Smith, whom she married on January 19, 1954 in Dallas.
Upon her graduation in 1945, she was a licensed cosmetologist, and moved from Gainesville, Texas to Abilene that same year. One of her first clients was the then Governor's wife who insisted that Glenda do her nails. She worked as a beautician until she had her first child. Once her children were grown, she returned to the workforce as a sales clerk at J. C. Penneys where she remained until her retirement in 1989.
Her hobbies included crossword puzzles, playing cards, and watching the Dallas Cowboys and her beloved 'Horns.
Glenda was a member of Elmcreek Baptist Church in Buffalo Gap.
She was a loving mother and she instilled in her children good manners, good work ethic and love and compassion. She made sure her children got an academic education as well as a spiritual education. She was especially proud of her granddaughter and supported her in all her efforts throughout her school years. She was very pleased at the mate her granddaughter chose as her spouse, ----- -----, and she treated him as one of her own.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Joyce Simpson Paxton; and brother, Dale Wade Pruett.
She is survived by her husband, Bill of Abilene; two daughters, ----- ----- and her husband -----, and ----- Smith, of Abilene; one son, ----- Smith of Abilene; one granddaughter, ----- ----- and her husband, -----, of Abilene; and her sister, ----- ----- and her husband, ----- "-----", of Arlington, along with several nieces and nephews. She was adored and will be missed by her team of Labrador retrievers, Luther, Emmie, Koko and Pearl, Rotties Toots and Tank, and one great granddog Pippin.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy 277 South, with Rev. Fred Sandlin officiating. Interment will be in Drummond Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be members of the Christian Motorcyclists Association of which her son-in-law, ----- -----, is a charter member.
Her family would like to thank all those involved in her medical treatment, particularly her very special nurse, Debbie Marshall.
