Obituary: Burnett Miller

Burnett L. Miller, 88, of Newark, died Saturday, Sept. 14 at Morris Hospital.

Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 17 at the Millington-Newark Cemetery, with Rev. Duane Kaufman officiating.

He was born Sept. 9, 1914 in Newark to Otto L. and Bertha K. (Richmond) Miller. He married Evelyn (Rassmussen) on Feb. 7, 1936 in Newark. Evelyn died exactly one year before Burnett on September 14, 2001. He was the owner and operator of the Miller-Hanson Grocery Store in Newark for many years. He was also custodian at the Newark High School for many years. He served 40 years on the Millington-Newark Cemetery board and was president for many of them. He was a member of Occidental Lodge 40 AF & AM in Ottawa and had served as Past Master and Past Patron of the Eastern Star at the Sheridan AF & AM Lodge and had been active in the Newark Fire Department.

He is survived by a son, two grandchildren, three great grandchildren; a sister, Madolyn Tu of Newark; and a brother Keith Miller of Cincinnati, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Sandra Miller of Peoria in 1987; one sister, Darlene Mayor and a brother, Dr. Otto L. Miller.
